New Life – About Us
Pastor Eric Shin
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
~ 2 Corinthians 8:9
As the Head Pastor at New Life, Eric Shin has founded the church together with about twenty members on August 10, 1997. He grew up in New York City and was saved at the age of eighteen at a youth conference. After experiencing joys and challenges of following Christ and serving in His local church during high school and college years, he left behind aspirations of being a lawyer in his hometown and followed God’s call to seminary.
Pastor Eric (affectionately known as PE) pastored a church in Boston for several years before coming to New Life with his lovely wife Lynette and their three children, Enoch, Caleb, and Josiah. He has had the honor of serving the Lord in places like Afghanistan, where he has been able to live out his faith and share the gospel with the Muslim world like his spiritual hero, Samuel Zwemer.
When PE isn’t shepherding the New Life flock, he enjoys fishing, golfing and sharing good food with good people. But no matter where he is or what he’s doing, PE lives by his favorite verse in 2 Corinthians 8:9 because it reminds him of how Christ became poor for our sake, so that through His poverty we might become rich.
Pastor Jabez Kim
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving,”
~ Colossians 3:23-24
Jabez accepted Christ at the age of 25 in 2006 after joining the house church through his friend. After deciding to obey God for a year with a doubtful heart, he started to experience God in various ways that he could not resist. In 2011, he became a shepherd in one of the singles’ house churches at Seoul Baptist Church of Houston. He resigned from his manager position at Honda dealership in an effort to prioritize his house church ministry. Through the ministry, Jabez brought many to Christ and he experienced God in so many ways through the members of his house church. God has also blessed him with a lovely wife, Jamie and precious daughter, Priscilla.
He enjoyed serving on the Praise Team and visiting New Mexico Indian Reservation every summer leading various ministries as part of the mission trip. After five years of serving as a shepherd, he was called to join the Youth Ministry at Seoul Baptist Church & New Life Fellowship.
Leaving behind his job as Project Manager in Samsung Heavy Industry, Pastor Jabez (known as PJ) now has the honor to serve in the SNY Ministry with amazing youth students. He is excited to share the love of God that he has experienced with them.
As he holds onto his favorite verse, Colossians 3:23-24 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving,” he prays for all the students to experience God personally and become servant leaders before graduating from high school. During his downtime, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing basketball.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
~ Matthew 6:33
In 2004, Lisa was invited to house church by a close friend, and in 2005 she accepted Christ into her heart as her Lord and Savior. During this time, she was also working as a legal assistant in a law firm specializing in foreclosures. Lisa began praying that if it was God’s will, He would open doors to a job where she could serve Him full-time.
God’s timing was perfect and Lisa ended up working at New Life Fellowship, where she is working as an administrator. The very first Bible verse Lisa remembers, and still holds dear to her heart is Matthew 6:33 – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
She says it reminds her that God should always come first and everything else that God has planned for her will be laid out according to His will. On her downtime you will find Lisa reading, baking, and hanging out with friends, family, and youth students.
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
~ Isaiah 55:11
After receiving my degree in science, my husband and I decided that it would be best if I stayed home with our little ones. As they started school, I wanted to find a part time job. Started working at a dental office as an office manager, but that did not allow me to be home when the kids were home. One would think I would jump at the chance to work at church, but I didn’t. I told God that I would only work if Pastor Eric asked which he did, and here I am.
Loving it! Before my kids and I came to NLF through the VBS program in the summer of 2008, we did not go to church, or know God, only heard of Him. Little did I know what God had planned for my family and me, but I came to know and love God through VBS, House Church and serving people. Other interest includes reading, gardening, and crafting.
In human eyes it seems very discouraging when one encounter people who does not come to believe for one reason or another, but this verse is a reminder that God’s desires and purpose will be accomplished whether it will be now or many years from now. God’s word(s) will not return to Him Empty.
