I have three sons. They are all very dear and precious to me. The first son, Enoch, is a junior at A&M in College Station. The second son, Caleb, just went to UT Austin as a freshman. And the third one, Josiah, is a junior at Taylor High School in Katy. In two more years, he, too, will move away for college.
My wife and I went up to Austin with Caleb a few weekends ago to help him settle in his dorm. We also wanted to visit a church or two with him to see which church family might be a good one for him to join so he can learn and serve to grow spiritually during the four years he will be living in Austin. I knew that this day was going to ...

Every Wednesday evening shepherds come together to share, encourage, learn and pray for one another. During this time, shepherds take turns to pray publicly and share a testimonial message. Through this they are getting trained to pray publicly and to share God's word using their own personal life stories. And I always get tremendously blessed by hearing their prayers and messages.
A few weeks ago, a shepherd shared his testimonial message titled, "Why I like New Life." He started out his message by sharing with us a recent conversation he had with his daughter, who is about five or six years old, on their way to San Antonio for a family ...

I came home from work at about 5PM today knowing that Josiah's house church will be meeting at our place and Lynette will be gone teaching pre-marital class elsewhere. Youth house church usually meets at 6:30PM but at about 5:30PM, three students arrived already. I welcomed them and asked them why they came so early. They said they came straight from church after praise team practice. I went inside my bedroom to lie down to rest my eyes for a little while. Then, I started to hear loud noises coming from the living room. They were playing cards. I started to get annoyed. I got up at about 6:20PM to tell them to stop playing cards and get ready ...

Many of you are aware that I had another retinal detachment surgery two weeks ago when we had our annual Crawfish Boil. Since I have asked you and your children to pray for me to have a good recovery, I would like to share with you an update on my eyes.
My right eye, for which I had scleral buckle surgery on February 19, is healing okay. Even though I see many floaters and the detached vitreous constantly moving in my eye, which makes my vision blurry, the good news is that after two months of surgery, the retina remains attached. According to the doctor, there is a good chance that the retina will stay attached for life if it remains attached two ...

We currently have two Sunday worship services, one at 9:45 and another at 11:00. However, our 9:45 worship service is a shortened version of the second worship service and is primarily for those who are serving at NLK (New Life Kids) or who are responsible for preparing Sunday refreshments. There are usually about 50 adults present during the first worship.
However, I have noticed over the past year that our second worship service attendance, especially during the first set of praise, is getting big, filling up almost all the chairs. We consistently have nearly 400 adults and 150 youth and children worshipping together during this time. The ...

This past Wednesday night when I was going home at about 10PM after the shepherds' meeting, I got rear ended at the corner of Beltway 8 and I-10. It wasn't anything severe but it was hard enough for me to bang my head against the side of my door and bleed. I was taken aback because of the recent surgery on my right eye. And thinking about all the hassle I would go through with insurance companies because it was a rental car I was driving made me a little frustrated.
After getting the necessary information from the person who hit me, I got into the car and cautiously drove home. While I was driving, however, I couldn't help but keep asking why ...

We as a church are committed to save the lost and make them disciples of Christ. One statistic says that about 18% of the US population attends church regularly, and by "regularly," it meant attending church three Sundays out of eight. And Texas is right at about the national average of 18%. Therefore, it is safe to say that at most 20% of Houstonians attend church regularly according to their definition but sporadically according to New Life's definition. This is a very discouraging report. What is even more discouraging is that the vast majority of churches are not reaching out to the unchurched unbelievers. I believe there are two main ...
