Two Services from February: Another Growing Pain!

As we watch the remodeling of our New Life Kids (NLK) wing coming to completion, we are getting excited thinking about what God will do for our children in that facility. Let's pray that God will raise up great men and women through our children's ministry who will live and die for Him in their generation. Starting from next Sunday, we will have two worship services beginning at 9 and 11AM. And this is how the worship service will look like: Welcome & Church News Praise Shepherd's prayer (Children get dismissed after the prayer) Praise Testimony (if there is any) Message Giving back to God Benediction Since we will begin the worship service with ...

Family Reunion

This past week was pretty busy for me and my wife. It was because my niece from New Jersey, my younger brother's family and third older sister's family from Atlanta visited us for about a week. I invited Grace, my niece, who is a senior in high school, to come down so she can go to our youth group's winter retreat since she has never been to any youth retreats in the past. The two families from Atlanta came to see how I was doing because they were concerned about my eyes. It wasn't easy hosting nine extra people all at my house for several days. Although we didn't eat every meal at home, it still was a big production to prepare each meal for 14 ...

Amazing Students at Living Life Bible Study

My Living Life Bible Study (LLBS) students this semester are all amazing. I have 20 students in the class which I think is the most ideal size. Seven of them are undergrad students, six are medical school students, one is a doctor and six are working professionals. After a long day at school or work, they show up to the class on Monday evening to learn more about God by studying His Word. Their motives and intentions for taking the class are varied. Some are taking the class because they are pressured by their shepherds to take it. Others are taking the class because it is one of the requirements for getting involved in certain ministries at ...

My Two Small Eyes

I never thought that my eyes were small for being an Asian man. In fact, I was convinced that they were average or a little above average. However, throughout this year, especially as I was getting my eyes treated by my cataract surgeon, I have come to accept that my eyes are indeed small. When I go to his office and sit in front of his apparatus, he tells me to open my eyes. So I do my best to open them as much as I can. But then, he often uses his fingers to open my eyelids even more so he can see inside my eye! I never laughed out loud in his office but I can't help but to laugh whenever I think about this.  I must have small eyes ...

He Did It Again!

We had a marvelous time serving the community this past Thursday through our annual Fall Festival. We all know the story in regards to what happened to the weather. Weather men and women forecasted even as late as on Wednesday evening that there will be 100% chance of rain on Thursday at 4PM which is the time that we needed the weather to be clear for us to set up and prepare. However, we all prayed asking God to take away the rain and clouds just several hours quicker so we can serve the community. The thought that went through my mind as I was praying for the weather was, "God is the one who created the universe by the words of His mouth. So, ...

Learning to Thank God in All Circumstances

On February 11, my wife, Lynette, Caleb, my second son, and Dustin, his friend, on their way to church for their Bible studies, got into a major car accident on Hammerly and Beltway 8. Our car got totaled but other than Lynette getting a fractured rib, everyone was safe. I thank God for His protection over their lives. On February 19, I was rushed to the hospital because my right eye retina was detached. The surgery went well. More surgeries, such as vitrectomy and cataract surgery, will be done in that eye in the coming months. However, I am thankful because there is a strong possibility that my vision will be restored at least to some degree...

What Have We Done to Deserve This?

Have you ever experienced a deep despair because your loved ones are so far behind in life that they can't seem to catch up? About six years ago, before my mother passed away, I was made aware that my second sister was struggling with a huge credit card debt that she just couldn't get out of on her own. One of my mother's last words to me was to help my sister who was in a dire situation. Therefore, out of love and respect for my dying mother and care and concern for my sister, I committed myself to help her get out of the big mess that she got herself in. I got her enrolled in a debt settlement program and, because her English is not good, I ...
