Anonymous comments on communication cards

We insert communication cards in our Sunday bulletin every week for the purpose of communication! J When New Life members and attendees drop their cards in the offering baskets, they are brought to me so that I can follow up on them. Mainly three things are communicated through the card. First one is urgent prayer needs. In addition to using yearly prayer request forms, I use prayer needs that are written in the communication cards to pray for the members each week. Second one is classes or ministries. New Life members can indicate what classes or ministries they are interested in taking or serving in through the card. And third one is message to ...

The Mural in the Hall of Faith

New Life began on Sunday, August 10, 1997. Last year, we celebrated our 20th year anniversary. We built and moved into our current building on Sunday, August 12, 2007, which was our tenth year anniversary. God has been good and faithful to us all these years. He has done some amazing things in and through us. I hope and pray that God will do even more great God-sized things in the years to come through New Life. When we decided to build and have a place of our own, someone needed to come up with architectural concepts and design. Unfortunately and strangely, Leadership Team was restricted from working very closely with the architect we hired to ...

Up to 50% from Church and 50% or More from Myself

New Life’s short-term mission trips’ preparation is in full swing. A couple of the trips have taken place already. And the deadline to sign up for the remaining trips is March 31. I hope many of you will go on a trip this year to encourage the missionaries out there, serve God and experience Him deeply. From the earlier years of New Life, we have always had a very unique and special policy when it came to raising funds for these trips. Members who have been here for a while know this. However, due to many not being familiar with the policy I would like to address it once more. This policy came into being due to a few phenomena that we ...

Some Changes in Our Sunday Corporate Worship Order

From the Pastor’s Desk (231) The Leadership Team and I have been discussing for some time how we can make our Sunday corporate worship service even better than how it is now. In the course of past few years, a suggestion has been made to me several times that we drop off our children at NLK before worship starts in order to have a continuous flow of praise, without a break in the middle, to enhance our worship experience. This was very difficult for me to accept because one element of our worship service that I wanted to keep was the first set of praise that we do together with our children. From New Life’s inception, worshiping with our ...

Let’s Pray in 2018!

From the Pastor’s Desk (230) Last year, we started out with an emphasis on managing our financial resources well before God. So, we had T90B exercise which stands for “Tithing for 90 days is basic.” I think many of us have done a great job with this. This year, I sense that we must work on our prayer life. The ultimate mission of all God’s churches is to save the lost and make them disciples of Christ. The task of saving people can’t be done without God’s supernatural power. The same goes for the task of changing people to be more like Christ. This means, we can’t fulfill the mission of God’s church without God giving us the ...

Serving alcohol during your wedding reception (Part 2)

After From the Pastor’s Desk #228, under the title, “Serving alcohol during your wedding reception,” came out, I have received mixed responses. Some liked and appreciated it, others not as much. It was expected. But I also sense that there is some confusion among us. What’s obvious in my head, at times, is not so obvious to others. For example, the answers to questions like “Does this apply to everyone? What if the wedding takes place outside of the United States where having wine and beer is just part of their everyday life? What if the bride and the groom are not connected to our KSC at all? What if the parents of the bride and the groom ...

Serving alcohol during your wedding reception

Many of you know where I stand in terms of alcohol. When I was young in faith, Christianity and alcohol didn’t mix together. I was taught that way from early on and I have never seen anyone enjoying alcohol with maturity and responsibility the way Christ would have done. I only saw people abusing alcohol who drank to get drunk. The ability to drink a lot and not get drunk was seen as male prowess. This is the culture that I grew up in. When we began New Life in 1997, my stance in regards to alcohol was the same because I saw men at New Life during that time not knowing how to enjoy alcohol responsibly. Alcohol consumption did more harm than good. ...
